Generous attendees experience hula hoops, hip hop and live painting
TORONTO, Nov. 16, 2018 – Partners in Art (PIA), hosted ArtRageous at the new home of Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) on Tuesday, November 13th.
Approximately 400 PIA members, artists, curators and contemporary art supporters came out to raise over $100,000. This year’s co-chairs were Arlette Tygesen and Heather Senst and entertainment featured the Isabella Hoops Troupe, live painting by artist David Strickland, 14 year-old hip hop singer Preston and a live sneaker art competition hosted by MARTk’d..
The money raised by ArtRageous goes directly to fund the contemporary art projects selected by PIA’s project development committee. Eligible projects must have a Canadian not-for-profit art organization and curator attached. Recent exhibits supported by PIA include Femmes Noires by artist Mickalene Thomas at the AGO (Nov. 29, 2018-Mar. 24, 2019) and Karla Black whose solo exhibition is currently at the Power Plant until Dec. 30.
PIA is funded primarily by membership dues and member donations. ArtRageous also raised funds from corporate sponsorship. PIA is known for supporting challenging contemporary artwork. Earlier this year PIA helped sponsor Yoko Ono’s The Riverbed at the Gardiner and Max Dean’s Still Moving at the Lever Soap Factory. For more on PIA-supported projects check out its project database.
