Camille Jodoin-Eng

Camille Jodoin-Eng

PIA is proud to support the practice of Camille Jodoin-Eng and their upcoming exhibition at Patel Brown Gallery (Toronto, ON).

Jodoin-Eng’s exhibition will be centred around themes of sustainability within artistic practice, material accumulation and excess inherent to consumerism, a warming planet, and our spiritual connections to the sun and earth. She posits: What power does it give, and what can it take away? What is deemed waste by our society of material accumulation and physical excess, and how can waste take on a new life? How do artists engage in the meaningful creation of tangible objects under capitalist and consumerist systems? The work will function as science fiction, creating stories of the future to reflect on the questions and observations of the present and hopes to inspire viewers to be inspired by the boundless power of the sun as a transformational force and contemplate their own potential for transformation.

Camille Jodoin-Eng’s work approaches the interplay between physical and psychological space by engaging with spatial and sensory properties such as light, dimensions, and perspectives. Jodoin-Eng has developed a studio practice that involves drawing, sculpture, fabrication, installation, and a growing visual language of personal symbols. Select exhibitions include “Earth Shrine” at Patel Gallery (2020), “Water Shrine” at the Scarborough Civic Centre (2019), “The Gate” at Project Gallery (2018), and “Wires webs veins nerves roots stems” at 8-11 Gallery (2018). Her work has recently been featured by Vice, as well as CBC. Jodoin-Eng has exhibited throughout Ontario and Quebec and completed numerous commissioned installations including AGO Massive, SMASH Gardiner, The Gladstone Hotel, and The Drake Hotel.
