PIA supported a commissioned work by the Chicago-based artist Theaster Gates at AGO. Theaster Gates: How to Build a House Museum was an immersive and confrontational installation that explored notions of blackness, movement, queer culture, freedom and the history of house music, by juxtaposing objects and ideas not traditionally found in spaces of high culture that provided a radically new visitor experience. This was Gates largest and most extensive North American gallery presentation to date.
